Tango Cultural History & Musicology Seminars
Program Purpose & Overview
An in-depth lecture and interactive listening series tracing the evolution of Argentine tango from its origins in the Río de la Plata through the Golden Age (1935–1955) and contemporary renaissance.
What Participants Experience:
- Lectures on key historical periods, socio-economic contexts, and migration influences
- Guided listening sessions dissecting prominent orquestas típicas (D'Arienzo, Di Sarli, Troilo, Pugliese)
- Exploration of tango lyrics, poetry, and lunfardo (the vernacular slang of Buenos Aires)
